Owner, Director of Nursing
Jo Alch is a Registered Nurse and the owner of Acappella in Home Care. Jo worked as a hospice admissions nurse for many years, finding that there was a void in exceptional private duty care in the home. Jo’s commitment to excellence in private duty has resulted in tremendous growth for her company, making Acappella one of the leading private duty licensed home care agencies in the State of Texas. Jo is an active member of the Texas Association for Home Care and Hospice, where she currently serves on the private duty committee. Jo was chosen in 2007 as one of the “Great 100 RNs of DFW”, and in 2012 won the D Magazine Excellence in Home Health award. Jo was also selected by Nurse.Com Spectrum 2012 Nursing Excellence Awards as a finalist in the Home, Community, and Ambulatory Care Category for Texas. Jo has been married to her husband Matt for 25 years, and has three amazing children. Jo is an active member of the Brother Bill’s Helping Hands Women’s Council, and eagerly volunteers with her son in the JJ Pearce area Young Men’s Service League.
Judi Burdette’s background consists of over 25 years of directing sales and marketing efforts for a 4-Star international hotel corporation in offices in both Chicago and Dallas, where she opened the office. She also started and ran her own successful retail franchise-type business for 5 years. She was a CMP in the Pharmaceutical Meeting planning industry coordinating Clinical Trials all around the world for major Pharmaceutical companies. Her latest project is at Acappella in Home Care as the Administrator, directing and coordinating the office regulatory and client care process. She was an Honors student in College, and has studied both in Texas and Volterra, Italy, and continues to add credentials to her resume when time permits. Currently Judi is entering her 2nd year sitting on both the Texas Association of Home Care and Hospice Private Duty and Membership committees. She has been a breakout speaker at the Texas Association of Home Care convention, talking about her role as the Administrator at Acappella and continues to be called upon to speak in front of the association.
Marketing Outreach/Client Care Coordinator/Geriatric Care Manager
Julie Walkup, after discovering a unique degree offered at the University of North Texas, a Bachelor’s degree in Gerontology, her lifelong passion of caring for seniors became an exciting reality. Her career began as an activities director in a retirement community in the heart of downtown Fort Worth, TX. It soon led to various Marketing positions in several senior communities in Dallas. Helping seniors and their families through a very difficult, emotional process of a true lifestyle change was a day-to-day passion of Julie’s. Wearing multiple hats, she was able to learn such an exciting industry that she couldn’t be more proud of. Moving into Home Health in 2010, with Acappella in Home Care was just another exciting step in Julie’s career. Now eagerly awaiting to be a certified Geriatric Care Manager with Acappella is yet another component of a much needed service that Acappella will offer families. Being an advocate for seniors includes walking them through difficult decisions, being there when the family can’t, picking the right community just for them, helping them understand the ever-changing world of technology, explaining confusing benefits, and just listening to their life stories. “I can’t imagine doing anything else as a career and for that I am so blessed!”
Michelle obtained her Undergraduate degree in Business Administration from National University in San Diego, California. After a career in teaching, she began her Home Health Care career as a Staffing Coordinator. She is excited about her new role as Human Resources Director. She is currently working to achieve her PHR certification, and a Master’s Degree. A native of New Jersey she has lived in New York, California, and now Texas is home! She enjoys being active in church, reading, traveling, and spending time with her 3 wonderful sons Kevin, Isaiah, and Daniel.
Hope Self, RN
Marketing Outreach, Client Care Coordinator
Hope Gilliland Self, RN, is the newest addition to the Marketing Outreach and Client Care Coordinator Team. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Spanish at Louisiana State University, and later her RN designation at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas. She is fluent in Spanish, which she learned living in Mexico as an Exchange Student, studying at both the Universidad de Guadalajara, and at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in Ambulatory Acute Care, and spent the past 11 years in bilingual telephonic triage in a major Dallas hospital.
Her kindness and passion for those in need, as well as outstanding attention to detail, have enabled Hope to have a rewarding career in the nursing field. In her free time, she is involved with many charitable projects and organizations. She is a very active member of her church, and enjoys participating in its community outreach programs. She also enjoys playing the piano and watching suspense movies. She has been married 18 years, and has a son who is in high school.
Karisti graduated from Texas Tech University with a Major in Family Studies and a Minor in Substance Abuse; studying The Causes, and Ramifications, of Substance Abuse. After graduating she moved to Dallas and started volunteering at the Forum at Park Lane calling BINGO once a week. Little did she know her volunteering would eventually lead her to a full time job at the Forum at Park Lane as their Program Manager. Working there for over two years a new opportunity arose for her at Five Star Premier Residence of Dallas where she was their Director of Resident Services and Lifestyle Director.
Karisti has 12 years of experience working in the Senior Industry & served on the board of the Activity Professionals Association of Greater Dallas from 2004-2006. She is very involved within her church and leads a weekly bible study.
